Midwife Services

Planning and preparing for parenthood can be the most amazing and exciting time, but can also be a time of anxiety, doubt, and confusion. Private sessions with our in-house midwife Kate, help to enhance your pregnancy care and preparation for family life.

We understand that sometimes you may just need a little more time and support than you are able to get from your existing NHS provision, whether because it is a more anxious pregnancy or simply because you feel it would be beneficial. We are flexible in our approach and can tailor our time and expertise to suit your needs. We want you to feel confident, knowledgeable, and empowered to have the best experience as possible.

Kate is an experienced NHS midwife, having worked across all areas of maternity care and with enhanced skills in acute maternal illness, newborn feeding, grief and bereavement counselling, ante/postnatal education, hypnobirthing and aromatherapy, pelvic health assessments, and neurodivergency.

Private appointment: bookable in 30 minute (£30) or 60 minute (£60) slots. You choose the topic! Areas we can help with could be:

  • Early pregnancy support and reassurance. This may be particularly useful after one of our early pregnancy scans. We can advise you on the best way to care for yourself in your pregnancy.

  • General reassurance and wellbeing. This could include listening to your baby’s heartbeat, baseline observations on yourself, advice on stage of pregnancy, discussing your emotional wellbeing.

  • The halfway hump! Mid-pregnancy is often the time when people feel at their best, and are starting to consider their options in pregnancy. We can help! This is the perfect time to reflect on your pregnancy so far, the ways you can keep yourself physically and mentally well, help your baby’s brain development, and plan the next part of your journey.

  • Labour and birth choices. We can help explore the options around your birth, help understand terminology, navigate evidence, to help you feel informed and empowered. We can support you with how to write these preferences, and how to communicate these to healthcare professionals

  • Advocacy. We know that sometimes it is hard to advocate for yourself, or feel uncertain about how to do so. We can explore why this, and help move forwards.

  • Pregnancy after loss. This is one of the drivers for why we do what we do. We understand how difficult a pregnancy can be. Our midwife Kate is a trained grief and bereavement counsellor, and specialises in supporting people after any kind of pregnancy or baby loss. We can explore your thoughts and feeling and incorporate wellbeing checks on you and your pregnancy. We can link with support services available at Cocoon.

  • Pregnancy after trauma. Any kind of previous trauma can create difficult feelings and emotions. We can explore your history if you wish, or simply make plans and discuss coping strategies.

  • Newborn feeding support. However you plan to feed your baby, we can offer a safe space to explore your feelings and thoughts, and support you with challenges you may be having. We have a quiet and comfortable room where we can observe feeds and offers support.

  • Postnatal Cocoon. Our offer doesn’t stop at giving birth, let us be your village. We know that often the hardest bit of becoming a new parent, is also the time where you can feel most on your own. We would love to wrap you in our cocoon – physical checks of you and your baby, feeding support, emotional health, adjusting to new parenthood, pelvic health assessments, whatever you need to feel supported and empowered as new parents.
