For those who wish to, finding out your baby’s gender can be a special milestone and at Cocoon there’s the opportunity to discover the news from as early as seven weeks.

We offer an early gender test as part of our antenatal services. This is a simple blood test that looks for male chromosomes in the fetal DNA of maternal blood - if found, the test tells us it’s a boy, and if not, it’s a girl! We have partnered with a UK forensic genomic lab, meaning your results will be available within 2 working days, and offering accuracy over 99%.
The test is suitable from 7 weeks gestation, or 6 weeks gestation with a scan. Performing the test earlier than this risks an inaccurate result, as not enough male chromosomes may be detectable. Maternal weight can sometimes affect the accuracy of the test too, so we recommend waiting till 8 weeks if your weight is over 85kg.
Our experienced clinician will take a blood sample from your arm at your appointment. Your baby’s sex will then be shared with you on the email address provided, or we can post the results out in a tamper-protected envelope, if you’d prefer.
