Early Gender Test & Scan
*Notice: Our Early Gender Testing service is temporarily unavailable, but we should be able to offer the service again very soon. Thanks for your patience.
From as early as six weeks, you can visit Cocoon for an early pregnancy scan to see you baby, and to find out your baby’s sex with an early gender test.
£250
Your appointment will start with a scan from one of our experienced sonographers. During the scan they will:
Confirm your pregnancy
Monitor and visualise your baby’s heartbeat
Check if your pregnancy is single or multiple
Assess the health of your ovaries and pelvic area
During your scan there will be plenty of time to ask any questions you’re carrying and we’ll share plenty more about the support available at Cocoon for the months ahead. You’ll also be given:
A printed photograph to take home
A link to download a digital report of your scan and images
Please note that in early pregnancy, it can be very difficult to see your baby on a scan. This could be because it’s just a little too early, or it could be a sign that your baby has not continued to grow as we would expect. It could also be an indication of an ectopic pregnancy. In these cases we’ll offer a complimentary rescan. It’s important that you seek medical advice if you are experiencing any discomfort or bleeding in early pregnancy. More information can be found in our terms and conditions, which you can find here.
Our experienced phlebotomy clinician will then take a blood sample from your arm. This is a simple blood test that looks for male chromosomes in the fetal DNA of maternal blood - if found, the test tells us it’s a boy, and if not, it’s a girl! We have partnered with a UK forensic genomic lab, meaning your results will be available within 2 working days, and offering accuracy over 99%.
The test is suitable from 6 weeks gestation with a scan. Performing the test earlier than this risks an inaccurate result, as not enough male chromosomes may be detectable. Maternal weight can sometimes affect the accuracy of the test too, so we recommend waiting till confirmed 8 weeks if your weight is over 85kg.
Your baby’s sex will then be shared with you on the email address provided, or we can post the results out in a tamper-protected envelope, if you’d prefer.
